«Soy un libro, léeme»
Desde 1967, el 2 de abril, coincidiendo con la fecha del nacimiento del escritor danés Hans Christian Andersen, el IBBY promueve la celebración del Día Internacional del Libro Infantil con el fin de promocionar los buenos libros infantiles y juveniles y la lectura entre los más jóvenes.
Cada año, una sección nacional del IBBY tiene la oportunidad de ser la patrocinadora internacional del Día del Libro Infantil y selecciona un escritor representativo y a un reconocido ilustrador de su país para que elaboren el mensaje dirigido a todos los niños del mundo y el cartel que se distribuye por todo el mundo, y se promueva la celebración en las bibliotecas, centros escolares, librerías, etc.
Este año le corresponde a la sección de Grecia, que difunde el mensaje del escritor Yagalis Iliopoulos (con el título de “Soy un libro, léeme”), ilustrado por Photini Stephanidi.

Todos somos libros.
La historia que cuento es mi alma
y cada libro tiene la suya propia.
Tal vez no nos asemejemos en nada
–los hay grandes, los hay pequeños,
los hay coloridos, otros en blanco y negro,
los hay muy finos, y otros muy gruesos.
Nuestras historias serán diferentes o similares:
he aquí nuestra belleza.
Qué aburrido, si todos fuéramos iguales.
Cada uno de nosotros es único.
Y merece ser respetado,
ser leído sin prejuicios,
tener su espacio, su estante.
Puede que construyas una opinión sobre mí.
Puede que elijas cuestionar o comentar lo que lees.
Puede que me devuelvas a la biblioteca,
o tal vez quieras tenerme cerca en tu viaje.
Pero jamás permitas que me tiren
ni que me manden a cambiar de estante.
No pidas nunca que me destruyan,
ni dejes que otros lo hagan.
Y si un libro se te acerca desde otra estantería,
porque alguien o algo le empujó a ello,
hazle un hueco.
A tu lado, cabe.
Trata de sentir cómo se siente.
Compréndelo. Protégelo.
Tal vez estés en su situación mañana.
Pues eres un libro tú también.

Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD. It decides upon a theme and invites a prominent author from the host country to write a message to the children of the world and a well-known illustrator to design a poster. These materials are used in different ways to promote books and reading. Many IBBY Sections promote ICBD through the media and organize activities in schools and public libraries. Often ICBD is linked to celebrations around children's books and other special events that may include encounters with authors and illustrators, writing competitions or announcements of book awards.
IBBY Greece is the official sponsor of ICBD 2023. The chosen theme is ‘I am a book, read me’.
The poster is the result of a collaboration between author Vagelis Iliopoulos and illustrator Photini Stephanidi. Together, they wanted to celebrate the power of children’s books in promoting values of equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as connecting people through tolerance and understanding.

We are all books.
My soul is the story I tell.
Every book tells its own story.
We can look quite different –
some big, some small,
some colourful, some black and white,
some with a few pages, some with many. .
We may say similar or completely different things,
but that’s our beauty.
It would be boring to be all the same.
Each of us is unique.
And each of us has the right to be respected,
to be read without prejudice,
to be given space in your library.
You may have opinions about me.
You may choose to question or comment on what you read.
You can put me back in the library
or hold me close and travel with me a long way.
But never let someone throw me away
or send me to another shelf.
