¡Crezcamos con los libros!
Desde 1967, el 2 de abril, coincidiendo con la fecha del nacimiento del escritor danés Hans Christian Andersen, el IBBY promueve la celebración del Día Internacional del Libro Infantil con el fin de promocionar los buenos libros infantiles y juveniles y la lectura entre los más jóvenes.
Cada año, una sección nacional del IBBY tiene la oportunidad de ser la patrocinadora internacional del Día del Libro Infantil y selecciona un escritor representativo y a un reconocido ilustrador de su país para que elaboren el mensaje dirigido a todos los niños del mundo y el cartel que se distribuye por todo el mundo, y se promueva la celebración en las bibliotecas, centros escolares, librerías, etc.
En 2017, el país elegido es Rusia. El diseño del cartel es de Mikhail Fedorov, y el texto, de Sergey Makhotin.
En mi más tierna infancia me gustaba construir casitas con bloques y todo tipo de juguetes, solía usar como tejado libros infantiles ilustrados; en sueños, subía hasta el interior la casa, me acostaba en la cama hecha con cajas de cerillas y contemplaba las nubes o el cielo estrellado, todo dependía de la imagen que más me gustase.
Instintivamente, seguí la ley de vida de todo niño que busca inventarse un ambiente cómodo y seguro, para conseguirlo, un libro infantil fue de auténtica ayuda.
Después me hice mayor y aprendí a leer, en mi imaginación, un libro comenzó a parecerse más una mariposa o incluso un pájaro, que a un tejado. Las páginas del libro eran como alas y susurros. Era como si el libro situado en el alféizar saliera volando inesperadamente por la ventana abierta hacia espacios desconocidos. Lo cogí, lo empecé a leer y el libro se tranquilizó. Después lo seguí a través de otros mundos y parajes, mientras mi universo imaginario se iba extendiendo.
¡Qué alegría tener un nuevo libro en mis manos! Al principio no sabes de qué trata, te resistes a la tentación de abrirlo por la última página, ¡y qué bien huele! No es posible descomponer su olor: tinta, pegamento… no, no lo es. Tiene un aroma especial a libro, uno excitante y único. Las puntas de algunas páginas se pegaban como si el libro no se hubiera despertado aún, se despierta cuando lo empiezas a leer.
A medida que vas creciendo el mundo de alrededor se va complicando. Te enfrentas a cuestiones que incluso un adulto es incapaz de resolver. Sin embargo, es conveniente poder compartir las dudas y los secretos con alguien, por tanto aquí es cuando el libro viene en tu ayuda. Probablemente muchos de nosotros nos hemos planteado: ¡yo he escrito este libro! Y el personaje favorito de pronto parece ser como tú. Vive los mismos problemas y los trata con dignidad; otro personaje no se parece a ti en nada pero quieres que sea como tu ideal, pretendes ser tan valiente y capaz como él.
Me hace reír cuando un chico o una chica dice “no me gusta leer”, no les creo, seguro que toman helado, juegan y ven películas muy interesantes. En otras palabras, les gusta divertirse. La lectura, frente el desarrollo de los sentimientos y la personalidad, no es una tarea tan agotadora, si bien, ante todo, es un gran placer.
¡Precisamente, esta es la intención de los autores que escriben libros para niños!

International Children's Book Day 2017
Since 1967, on or around Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, 2 April, International Children's Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books.
Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD. It decides upon a theme and invites a prominent author from the host country to write a message to the children of the world and a well-known illustrator to design a poster. These materials are used in different ways to promote books and reading. Many IBBY Sections promote ICBD through the media and organize activities in schools and public libraries. Often ICBD is linked to celebrations around children's books and other special events that may include encounters with authors and illustrators, writing competitions or announcements of book awards.

In my early childhood I loved to build houses out of blocks and all sorts of toys. Instead of a roof I often used a children’s book with pictures. In my dreams I climbed into the house, laid down on the bed made of a matchbox and looked up at the clouds or at the starry sky. It all depended on which picture I liked the most.
I have intuitively followed the rule of life of every child who seeks to create a comfortable and safe environment for himself. And a children’s book really helped me accomplish this.
Then I got older, I learned to read, and a book in my imagination started looking more like a butterfly, or even a bird, than a roof of a house. The book pages resembled the wings and rustled. It seemed that the book lying on the windowsill would rush out the open window into unknown spaces. I took it in my hands and began reading, and the book began to calm down. Then I rushed myself to other lands and worlds, expanding the space of my imagination.
What a joy to hold a new book in one’s hands! At first you don’t know what the book is about. You resist the temptation to open the last page. And how good it smells! It is impossible to divide this smell into components: printing ink, glue… no, it is not. There is a particular smell of a book, an exciting and unique one. The tips of some pages would stick together as if the book had not woken up yet. It wakes up when you start reading it.
You are growing up and the world around is becoming more complicated. You are facing the questions, which not even any adult is ready to answer. However, it is important to share your doubts and secrets with someone. And here a book comes along again to help. Many of us have probably caught ourselves thinking: this book was written about me! And the favourite character suddenly appears to be like you. He experiences the same problems and tackles them with dignity. And another character is not like you at all, but you want him to be your role model, you wish to be as brave and resourceful as he is.
When some boys or a girl says, “I do not like to read!” that makes me laugh. I do not believe these kids. They eat ice cream, play games and watch interesting movies. In other words, they like to have fun. And reading is not just hard work towards the development of feelings and personality, but it is first of all a great pleasure.
Specifically for that purpose children’s books authors write their manuscripts.
